Your Prayer before Bible Study can be the key to experiencing that sweet communion with God that can only come through understanding His Word and walking there in.

" Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not " - Jeremiah 33:3
Awesome! Fantastic! Incredible!
These are the three words I would like to have coming from the mouth of every Christian, when it comes to studying the Word of God. Your experience really and truly can be an awesome one. It begins with learning the importance of Prayer before Bible Study.
I make a promsie to you today that I will not give up until the Words of God springs to life right before your very eyes (as it did for me).
My Oh My, what a day that will be…
If you are not there yet, that’s ok, no problem at all. But know this, You Will Get There.
The answer you’re seeking is found in your prayers. On this page you will find the answers to the questions which are most often asked by Christians. They are
Not only that!
You’ll be given a very
simple prayer that God gave to me, that you can use for your prayer before bible study,
that will make a big difference. It literally opened my understanding to
the truths in the Bible.I was taught to 'Pray Right
Over-Night'. I really want to share it with you. I call it ‘The
Bible Study Prayer’. Use as your prayer before bible study sessions and watch
God change things. Click here to jump to this simple bible study prayer.
I remember the times when understanding the Bible seemed like learning Algebra from the worst teacher on the planet. Like scraping your nails on a chalk board, Like learning to understand a new language …..You get the point.
I know of persons that have given up on ever understanding the Bible and have just settled for reading a few scriptures when they have time.
This should not be our lives as Christians, so say with me, ‘This will not be my life. Prayer changes things!’
I truly believe that every Christian have asked them self this question at some point in their life. So let me reveal the secret to you…Ready?
…. ‘There is no secret at all!’
The Word of God is not supposed to be simple to understand by all, the truth of the scriptures is only to be understood by his people. Why do you think that Jesus spoke in parables at times?
Matt 13: 10 - 11 KJV
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou ( do you speak) unto him in parables? He answered and said unto them, because it is given unto you know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, is only given for the chosen of God to know and understand. Not anyone else. As Christians, we are the chosen of God.
1. It is revealed to us by the Spirit which is the Holy Ghost
1 Corinthians 2: 10 -14 KJV
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God….even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things we speak…which the Holy Ghost teacheth…But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
2. It is given to us through Prayer. As Christians we must always whisper a prayer before studying the word of God.
Saying prayer before bible study sessions is your key. Then, by your faith the door of understanding will be flung open.
To give a proper answer, let me first give an example: If we go over to a friend’s home, before we can enter, what do we do? We of course knock or ring the door bell or call, right?
So, why do we do this?
Because we would like our friend to open the door of his home and let us in, right?
Now let's apply that same concept to prayer. Prayer before bible study is like you knocking on your friend's door or ringing that bell. It is your access point. God will open up every time and say ‘Come on in my child’. But you will first have to 'knock''
My friend, we must always remember that God is the author of the Bible. Only he can reveal the understanding. We should never rely on our natural understanding, to interpret something that is
spiritual. We must always go to God first.
Proverbs 3:5 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding
I remember it like yesterday. The day when God started to open my understanding to his Word. I had much difficulty with Bible Study. I constantly prayed ‘Lord I need you to help me. ’. I would then go back to my Bible just to realize that there was little or no change.
I was sitting in a pew at church when God revealed to me, by the scriptures, what should be my prayer before bible study. That was the day when it all changed.
Isaiah 11:3 KJV
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord…
The Scripture above is a Messianic Scripture which is a prophetic scripture that speaks of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Well, it says that the spirit of wisdom and understanding will rest upon him along with the spirit of knowledge and make him quick to understand the fear of the Lord.
You get it?
So if I am to be like Jesus Christ, then to be like him, I have to receive what he received from God. Ephesians 1 confirmed this by saying
Ephesians 1: 16b,17, 18 KJV
…Making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power, to usward ( to us) who believe.
So what should we remember to pray for just before studying God's Word?
is absolutely necessary that we be able to discern truth from error, and understand
God's word in order for us to grow spiritually. With these five points in mind, you can actually create your own bible study prayer but i have attached below my prayer that you can also use.
Now that you know what you should ask of God, then it will be simple to pray before bible study. You can use this prayer just before each session ( or whenever you feel the need) and watch God work it out for you!
Father , It’s me…………………, your child. Lord Jesus, I cannot understand Your Word by myself but I desire to know more about you and to draw closer to you. Do not leave me in the dark I pray, but light my way by your Spirit.
As you did through Jesus, I ask you to do the same for me. Give me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you. Let the eyes of my understanding be enlightened, that I may know what is the hope of your calling and what is the riches of the glory of your inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of your power to us who believe.
Open my understanding Oh Lord Jesus. Purge me through your Word.
I thank you for doing it, Master.
Now just believe that it is done and by your faith you will have the victory.
You might be saying ‘ No kidding? It can’t be that simple’
Well I am NOT kidding. It is that simple.
I prayed this prayer sincerely, a few years back and what a difference it has made in my life. I continue to whisper this prayer before bible study and God continues to open my understanding everyday. There is so much to learn in Jesus, and I am never satisfied! If it can make a difference in my sessions, it can make a difference in yours. I do not believe that God has any respect of person, so he will definitely give you what you ask in sincerity.
At times your Bible Study sessions may be conducted in a group setting. You can still use this prayer. Below you will find it reworded for this purpose.
Father , we come to you as your children . Lord Jesus, we cannot understand Your Word by ourselves but we desire to know more about you and to draw closer to you. Do not leave us in the dark we pray, but light our way by your Spirit.
As you did through Jesus, we ask you to do the same for us. Give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you. Let the eyes of our understanding be enlightened, that we may know what is the hope of your calling and what is the riches of the glory of your inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of your power to us who believe.
Open our understanding Oh Lord Jesus. Purge us through your Word.
We thank you for doing it, Master.
Now that you have learnt the power of your prayer before Bible Study, there is no holding you back. There is no telling what magnificent things will happen in your next Study session.
